Team Sask Identification

Sask Volleyball is committed to providing opportunities for kids of all ages, who enjoy the high-performance experience, and want to improve their skills. This encourages young athletes to remain competitive and achieve personal goals to become the best that they can be. These identification (ID) initiatives help identify long-term athletes who are passionate and committed to the sport of volleyball, who have potential to be selected for our Provincial summer program. Athletes who are short-listed will receive an email invite to our (June) Future Select camp or our (May) Team Sask Provincial Team final selection weekend.

Please find below our scheduled men and women identification events for this year.

Sask Volleyball high-performance staff will continue to monitor athlete progress during Sask Cups and Provincial competitions. Athletes who are not returning provincial athletes from this past summer and interested in Team Sask this year, will need their Club coach to provide an email recommendation to Eric Marchildon (Women’s program) or Joel Dyck (Men’s program). In order to be considered, please have your coach include team name, position, jersey # and physical and leadership attributes. Please read the identification and selection process below.
Coach recommendation, contact us (Subject line – High Performance)

*** 15 and under women (Born 2008 or later) and 16 and under men (Born 2007 or later) are only permitted to register for one ID Session ***
Ideally 14 & 13 year old athletes should (but not limited to) register for a Jump Reach ID session before attending an ID training session.
[Note] Athletes born prior to the required date of birth are not eligible to register for these in-person sessions. This includes athletes playing down an age group.

IDENTIFICATION PROCESS

Athletes who are interested in the program must attend one of the ID events. Coaches will continue to monitor their progress at club events, until Provincials. On the Monday following their Provincial Championship, highly-rated athletes will receive an email invitation to our Future Select camp in June or our Team Sask final selections camp in May. Please note that returning Provincial Team athletes will automatically receive an invitation to one of these two camps, and do NOT need to attend an ID camp prior to tryouts. Team Saskatchewan high-performance programs are intended for athletes with the potential to compete at the post-secondary and national levels.

SELECTION PROCESS

The final selection committee in May, will evaluate athletes during a weekend of training. These experts will consist of the Team Sask coaching staff, Saskatchewan Volleyball’s High-Performance staff, and experienced senior evaluators. Only the top athletes selected will be asked to join this year’s Team Sask summer program.
