2020 Team Sask Summer Programming Update

As you know, with gathering restrictions, this summer will require additional government information before we can properly attempt a safe return to in-person training. Sask Volleyball is currently working on a Return to Play plan based on what we currently know, to ensure we can safely get back to volleyball as quickly as possible. Sask Volleyball is using the direction and advice from the Government of Saskatchewan/Sask Health, Volleyball Canada, and Sask Sport in order to develop our Return to Play plan.  Once our Return to Play plan is drafted, Sask Volleyball plans to survey its members to gauge overall comfort level to participate in modified sport while physical distancing restrictions are still in place.

Phase One of our Summer Programming will be focused on delivering athlete FREE ONLINE training in June, July and August. Phase Two will be geared towards in-person Team Sask programming in July and August, as restrictions allow.

Please find Sask Volleyball’s Summer Programming outline below.

OFF COURT PHASE ONE – Jun/Jul/Aug

Online Summer Training – Team Sask Athletes

Sask Volleyball will offer a private stream of programming to select 17U, 16U, & 15U ages. The 17U men’s and women’s training groups will start in June and 16U/15U to begin in July. In order to offer a quality experience, a limited number of spots will be made available. A selection process has been outlined below and will be determined by a committee of coach evaluators and our high-performance staff. Due to the shorten season, anyone who attended an ID camp, this information will only serve as a reference tool for our evaluators.

17U Indoor Athlete Selection (Men & Women) – Invite Only:

A group of 20-24 athletes, for both Men & Women, will be shortlisted and informed of the commitment level required. Selections for this 2021 Canada Games group will be based on information we have collected up to this point, during training camps, club or high school season. Please note that athletes who don’t make this summer training group will still have a chance to make this team next year.

Selected athletes will be contacted May 25th

ON COURT PHASE TWO – Timing TBD

In-Person Summer Training – Team Sask Athletes (Invite Only)

Prior to initiating our Return to Play plan, Sask Volleyball will survey its members to gauge overall comfort level. It’s important that Sask Volleyball consider all factors in order to identify risks and mitigate strategies necessary for a safe environment.

It is anticipated that our in-person Team Sask training, at the earliest, will not be able to begin until the Government of Saskatchewan initiates Phase 4 of their Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan. With in-person gathering restrictions across the country, Volleyball Canada has decided to cancel the 2020 Canada Cup, so there will be no related competition and travel included in the Team Sask program this summer.

Sask Volleyball continues to plan for the eventuality of in-person training for late July or August. In the event that we can Return to Play prior to mid-July, we will communicate a modified Team Sask plan & budget to families. By accepting to be part of our Phase One Team Sask online summer programming, this does not obligate your family to participate in Phase Two.

Stay tuned for more information to come. Please direct any questions to Joel or Eric and we will respond as quickly as possible.

Team Sask Provincial Team

Sask Volleyball’s High Performance Provincial Team Program (HPPT-SK) provides opportunities to athletes and coaches from across Saskatchewan to represent the province on Provincial, Post-Secondary and National Teams. The program brings together identified high performance athletes from throughout Saskatchewan and provides them instruction with elite coaches and sport science specialists. The training environment is structured to be dedicated, complex, cohesive, and innovative. Our athletes are developed as both students of the game and young professionals. In response to the increased time demand and specialization training methods, athletes are expected to show respect and provide a complete physical and psychological commitment to the program.

Provincial Team training opportunities are in environments designed to reinforce self-ignition and inspire athletes to reach their individual dreams and goals. It is important to Sask Volleyball that a positive impact be felt within Saskatchewan’s competitive club and Post-Secondary environments from athletes who graduate from our program.
