Triple Ball Pilot Project
In an effort to incorporate the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model, Saskatchewan Volleyball will be piloting the Triple Ball Pilot Project at the 2009-2010 13U class Asics Cup Tournaments. The goal of this pilot is to promote better skill development, participation, sportsmanship, meaningful competition, and fun. Outlined below are the specific elements of this pilot for each of our tournaments, as well as a diagram that demonstrates the fundamentals of the concept.

SVA Asics Cup 1: February 6, 2010
Entry deadline: Jan. 25
a) All matches for this tournament, round robin and play-offs, will use a new “Triple Ball” format.
b) There will be no specializing of positions, i.e. no switching to a different position from your service order. Whoever happens to be in position #3 (or position #2) in your service reception will be the designated setter for that rotation.
c) Everyone on your team will get the opportunity to play as a “Rotating Substitution” system will be in place. After the 3 ball sequence, players on the serving team will rotate clockwise. Server from position #1 will move to the bench, the first player “in line” on the bench will move to position #6.
SVA Asics Cup 2: March 13, 2010

a) The “Triple Ball” format will be used for the round robin portion of the tournament only.

Seeding
In order to comply with the principles within the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) Model, we will not be awarding any points at any tournaments for athletes in the 13U age groups. “During competitions, athletes may play to win and do their best, but the major focus of training is on learning basic volleyball skills and tactics and successfully applying those skills and tactics in competitive situations as opposed to actual competition success” (Volleyball For Life, 2006, pg. 17).
For the Provincial Championships, teams may select whether they would like to play in Division 1 or Division 2. At Provincials, the re-pool structure system will be in effect, as there will be no basis for seeding.
